Gingerbread Competition and Exhibition

“Inn-vesting in the (Culinary) Arts for future Generations”

Competition Proceeds Benefit Pocono Alliance’s Bridges Out of Poverty Program.


You are invited to participate in the Annual Stroudsmoor Gingerbread Competition.  The inn is located in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania off Interstate 80 exit 307, just minutes from downtown Stroudsburg and the Delaware Water Gap.  The exhibition will be open for viewing from Saturday, December 7 through Sunday, December 8, 2013 during Stroudsmoor business hours.  Awards presentation is scheduled during The Stroudsmoor Tree Lighting Celebration on December 8, 2013 at 4:30 PM.

REGULATIONS

  • Gingerbread Sculptures must be delivered ready for display.  On-site completion of the gingerbread sculpture is not permitted.  The sculptor’s name, address, phone, and entry category must be clearly written on a 3” x 5” card affixed to the display base.  Stroudsmoor reserves the right not to exhibit entries and to remove any entry which begins to deteriorate.
  • There is an entry fee of $20 per sculpture for participating adults. Children ages 12 and under enter free.  Make checks payable to Pocono Alliance.  A gingerbread sculpture may be produced by more than one sculptor; however, prizes will be issued to the winning group and must be shared by the individuals participating in the creation of the winning entry. 
  • The Gingerbread Competition Entry/Release Form must be filled out and signed.  The completed release form and entry fee must be returned to Pocono Alliance by November 15, 2013.
  • Sculptures must be delivered on Friday, December 6th  between 3-6 pm, to Stroudsmoor Country Inn, 257 Stroudsmoor Road, Stroudsburg – on-site contact Jacki Miller 570-421-6431, ext. 443.  All sculptures must remain on display at Stroudsmoor through December 8, 2013.
  • All works must be original; no commercially produced gingerbread will be accepted.  Sculptures must be constructed mainly of gingerbread and icing.  Non-visible supports of other materials are allowed.  The entire visual display must be made of edible materials with the exception of the surface it is mounted upon.  The sculpture must be mounted on a rigid piece of plywood no larger than 24” x 24”.  Sculptures will be judged on imagination, construction, decoration details, use of gingerbread, color and adherence to guidelines.
  • Stroudsmoor will not be responsible for unclaimed sculptures.  Works must be picked up between 9:00 – 11:00 AM on Monday, December 9, 2013.  Gingerbread Sculptures unclaimed after December 10, 2013 will become the property of Stroudsmoor unless alternative arrangements have been made in advance. 
  • First, Second & Third Place prizes will be awarded.  Awards are at the sole discretion of the judges, who may choose not to award all prizes.  Awards will be presented at the Tree Lighting Celebration on December 8th at 4:30 PM.  Stroudsmoor reserves the right to photograph sculptures for promotional purposes.  Photographs become the property of Stroudsmoor Country Inn.

JURORS

Chef Jessica Hicks:  Stroudsmoor is proud to have Chef Hicks at the helm of their bakery department for over 14 years.  Her sweet talents include the creation of our annual Gingerbread display and the masterful preparation of all the Stroudsmoor wedding cakes.  Chef Hicks and her team offer their finest sweets at “Stroudsmoor Inn Towne” the inn’s bakery café located at 125 Broad Street in Stroudsburg just at the bottom of the Stroudsmoor Mountain. 

Chef Bernadette Pirone: Affectionately known as “Mrs. P”, Chef Bernadette Pirone has been the Stroudsmoor Executive Chef for more than two decades.  Her talents in the kitchen range from the preparation of the tiniest hors d’oeuvre to the execution of the grandest buffets.
