Stroudsmoor History

STROUDSMOOR  . . . Is an Inn atop its own 350-acre mountain; A conference center conveniently accessible from several major highways and airports; An enchanting reception site replete with panoramic views, old-world charm and elegance, and finally STROUDSMOOR is a perfect weekend getaway or trattoria for intimate dining located in the majestic Pocono Mountains.

The original inn, called Highland Dell, was built in approximately 1840.  A second lodge, which currently houses the Reservation Desk, dining room and lounge, was added around the turn-of-the-century.  In the late 30’s the inn received a new name, Stroudsmoor, along with the addition of cabins and cottages as more and more families began to visit.  During the years that followed, various other buildings on the property have been lovingly restored to accommodate guests.  Cedar House, now a three-bedroom suite, was once the caretaker’s cottage.  And, the Carriage House now houses the inn’s Spa and Bridal Studio. 

SCI – The Restaurant at Stroudsmoor Country Inn – endeavors to provide an environment conducive to enjoying Sophisticated dining featuring Classic cuisine and Inspired signature recipes in a setting rich in history and beauty.  Our mission is to assist in making memories, celebrating friendships and fostering romance; to afford our guests a staff unequaled in their ability to serve in a proficient and friendly manner, and, as in all our endeavors, to continue the Stroudsmoor traditions of impeccable quality and gracious hospitality in an atmosphere of old-world charm and elegance.

The Inn also offers five dedicated event facilities, each creating a unique atmosphere to host private gathering for both business and pleasure.  A brief description of the Stroudsmoor Event Facilities follows:

The Stone Room

An intimate private dining room located in Stroudsmoor’s Historic Main Inn, The Stone Room comes by its name naturally as its walls are made of fieldstone.  Large picture windows overlook a private garden, where many couples have uttered their vows.

Intimate gatherings, rehearsal dinners and business events for groups of 25 to 60 guests are easily accommodated in The Stone Room.


Woodsgate is the most historic of Stroudsmoor’s buildings over 200 years old; it creates a unique setting for a traditional old-world celebration accommodating groups of 75 to 150 guests. 

Guests enter through the Victorian iron gates and into an evergreen garden, perfect for wedding ceremonies.  Cocktails and hors d 'oeuvres are served the pub-like lower level of Woodsgate.  After mingling and nibbling for an hour, guests ascend a spiral staircase to the dining room where oaken beams, pierced tin chandeliers, magnificent florals and a multitude of flickering candles greet them. 

Many corporate groups have chosen Woodsgate as the location for their business meetings, seminars, team building programs or multi-day conferences.  Its unique architecture allows for socializing and dining on one level while meeting on another. 


The most unique of Stroudsmoor’s event facilities, Lawnhaven creates an open-air forum featuring immense stone columns to support a 16' cedar-lined roof.  Pewter chandeliers highlight its patterned slate floor and fieldstone hearth.  However, the most impressive architectural features of Lawnhaven are the glass walls, which surround the entire building. Walls that open onto “The Grand Lawn” and an exquisitely appointed garden complete with water feature, pavilion and gazebo. 

Lawnhaven, true to the meaning of its name sheltered lawn allows the celebration to continue by protecting its guests from the occasional raindrop hosting outdoor events, without the worries of inclement weather.  Groups of 75 to 150 guests are graciously accommodated for grand receptions on the Lawn.  


Ridgecrest is the largest of Stroudsmoor’s private event facilities, gracefully hosting 175 to 300 guests.  Ridgecrest features a 40' stone bar, hearth and grand piano in its grand lounge.  The buildings window-wrapped dining room affords guests panoramic views of the mountains and the valley below.  Finally, coach lights line the terrace, which engulfs the building and offers a most breathtaking prospective for ceremonies.

In addition to lavish social gatherings, Ridgecrest hosts a wide variety of corporate events.  Whether conducting business in its executive boardroom, or entertaining dignitaries in its elegant lounge and dining room, no matter the occasion, guests will flow easily from business to pleasure in this multifaceted facility. 

Conference Facilities

High-level corporate events are handled with ease in one of many boardroom suites.  The suites feature custom-fit board table, break-out/dining areas, wet bar or private lounge, multi-line phones with data ports, WIFI Network,  sophisticated audio visual equipment, and business center.  Dedicated conference associates and secretarial services are also available to afford the client a productive environment.  

The inn’s conference facilities can be coupled with overnight accommodations, including master suites with living and dining areas, to create the perfect atmosphere for business and social entertaining for groups of 5 to 40 guests.


Auradell will host a variety of amenities for business and social events.  Guest accommodations on the second and third floors have been refurbished to include broadband internet access, master bedrooms and living areas that look out over Stroudsmoor proper.  The first floor will offer a solarium, hearthside conference suite, business center and The Gallery at Stroudsmoor, where private events for groups of 10 to 60 guests will enjoy dining amid the works of renowned regional artists.  Finally, the ground level, which was once the manor’s grand ballroom, houses The Village Common Florist and Gift Shop.  Stroudsmoor is proud to continue its traditions of impeccable quality and gracious hospitality in an atmosphere of old-world charm and elegance with the addition of  . . . Auradell at Stroudsmoor.


The newest of the inn’s event facilities is Terraview.  Its chateau-like appearance will complement the existing 18 building and offer seating for the grandest receptions of 300 guests.
